Logosol produces "best looking boards in the Competition"
at Sawmill Shoootout III
Logosol was back in Bangor for the 3rd Annual Great Portable
Sawmill Shootout, sponsored by Independent Sawmill and Woodlot Magazine.
Rob
Bjorklund was excited to be back in the competition for the third time.
"We went in planning to cut some great lumber and just have fun!"
he said after the Shootout.
He
and Logosol sawmill owner Robert Seidell worked hard to slice their way
through 535 BF (Log Scale) of logs in this tough competition.
Robert said the M7 Swedish Mill performed well in this grueling competition.
"The action was pretty fast and furious," he said after the
Shootout.
New rules
The rules changed somewhat at the competition this year, as they are
now breaking the mills into price categories. Logosol competed in the
under $10,000 category. Once again, Logosol was the only chainsaw mill
in the competition. And most of the mills in that category, were at the
top of the price range. So, there were none of the lower priced band mills
that Logosol has beaten in the past left in the competition. That put
Logosol competing with mills still priced 3 times it's value.
The Logosol Team produced 184 BF/HR
The rules also changed on the scoring, as the Lumber Recovery Factor
counted 50% of the scoring. That caused the team to have to edge and cut
every board they could from the logs, which slowed the total time down,
whereas in the past, the team has just cut through the logs as quickly
as they could and stopped. So, this year's performance cannot be equally
compared to previous years. "We didn't bust the 200 BF/HR mark, but
we sure showed that the Swedish Mill is consistent in producing around
180 BF/HR, and that it can handle rugged competition," Rob said.
Best looking boards
As the competition was finishing up, and the team of scorers were over
talking to the Logosol crew, Robert said he heard them say over and over,
"these are the best looking boards in the whole competition!"
They were amazed at the quality of the lumber, and how they looked as
compared to the other boards that were made by the higher priced mills
in the shootout. "We certainly turned some heads on quality,"
he added.
