Sawmill Shootout 2003 - Timberjigg and M7 set records!
Rob Bjorklund, Logosol Factory Rep, and Robert Seidell, an M7
owner from Michigan, participated in the 2003 Independent Sawmill and
Woodlot Management Magazine's Great Portable Sawmill Shootout held at
the NorthEast Forest Products Equipment Expo in Bangor Maine.
The Timberjig - first hand held sawmill ever to participate!
For
the first time ever in this event, they ran a hand held sawmill, the
Logosol Timber Jig! Their competition with the Timber Jig was in the second
timed event on Saturday, and they were working directly next to the biggest
bandmill in the competition.
Rob was excited about their preformance, "We are really stoked about
how well we did in this competition!" he told us. "We cut some
great lumber with the Timber Jig in record time!"
Here are the official results from the Shootout for the Timber Jig:

The Logosol Team started with 4 logs that scaled out to contain 506 board
feet of lumber. One of these was 25" in diameter! They used the Timber
Jig to cut 291 B.F. of lumber in under 80 minutes of working time. And
if you've been wondering if the Timber Jig will actually cut quality lumber,
you can see from these stats that it definitely will. They only had 16
board feet of lumber that was classified as a miscut by the lumber inspector.
The Timberjig had better precision than some of the bandsaws!
The lumber inspectors were certified lumber inspectors and inspected
the lumber produced according to lumber standards for that area. Some
of the biggest sawmills in the competition had a lot more miscuts. Some
had 85 board feet of rejected lumber. One big band mill had 77 board feet
of rejects. Only 3 mills had no rejected lumber and one of those was the
Logosol M7 sawmill, which Rob and Bob ran in the Friday competition. All
of the mills were cutting 2" lumber this year.
The M7 blew the old record away!
The Logosol Team pushed the M7 sawmill to a new record this year.
They broke the 200 Board Feet per hour barrier for the first time. Their
stats show a much higher lumber recovery factor of .90. This LRF is higher
than two of the circular sawmills that competed in the event. The bandmills
in the event averaged over 1.05 in their LRF's. And the Logosol Team proved
this mill produces consistent quality lumber. The M7 is one of only 3
mills that had no miscuts in this event. Of course the two other sawmills
that accomplished this were mills that cost thousands more than the M7
sawmill.
In both events, the Logosol Team used the Husqvarna 395XP chainsaw as
their powersource.
All in all it was a great showing for Logosol! We appreciate the opportunity
to compete in this event offered by Independent Sawmill & Woodlot
Management Magazine.

"Logosol didn't only break the 200 board feet / hour, they
blew it away, turning 480 board feet of lumber in 105 minutes and
47 seconds, for a cutting rate of 272 board feet per hour, and a
lumber recovery factor of 0.90. Plus, they had no miscuts."
