Filing Gear
Sharpen the chain before it gets dull
LEARN HOW TO RECOGNIZE THE SIGNALS
of a chain beginning to be dull. If
you fi le the chain before it gets dull it
only needs a few light strokes with the
fi le on each cutting tooth. There is practically
no wear and tear on the chain and
bar when the chain is sharp. If the chain
has been damaged or unevenly fi led it
can start pulling sideways. This can also
occur when the guide bar is so worn that
the chain touches the bottom of the bar
groove. Check that the cut goes straight
by watching the distance between the
guide bar and the fresh-cut surface when
the saw is pulled back. If the chain is
pulling sideways, the guide bar gets worn
unevenly and even a new chain will then
steer in the wrong direction. The guide bar
can be fi led with a UFK edge file.
