A customer in Costa Rica bought his kiln from Logosol in US, read his report from the Forestry Forum!
“We have been using the larger wood kiln from Logosol for more than six months now and I thought I would do a report.
First of all, it has been worth every penny we paid - we have been very happy with the quality of the wood being dried. We started off by following the plans for the box - but really the plans are for a lot less size than we could do, after all, we live in the tropics and we don't deal with cold weather. So we made our own box that will hold 1500 BF, stacked, of lumber. We can go from sort of air dry to ready for making cabinets, etc in 14 days or less, not counting a week to let it rest.
Our box is probably the prettiest box you have ever seen. Since we mill tablilla (think T & G flooring) and always have too much seconds available, we made the box out of seconds of tablilla! We filled in between the walls with shavings from making tablilla. Since this is all teak, nothing eats it. The top is about six inches deep, filled with shavings.
This has actually introduced a very cool feature. When you start off drying, the shavings in the top get very wet and stay that way until the wood in the kiln is dry. To check out the status of the wood, all you have to do is stick your hand into the sawdust. If it is dry, the wood is ready. (about 8% which is plenty for us)
So, we are very happy with the product, and in time, expect to add more.”
